Upcoming NABCI Webinars: Nov. 22nd & Dec. 14th

Mark your calendars for two upcoming webinars hosted by the North American Bird Conservation Initiative:

State of the Birds: The first webinar, to be held from 2-3pm eastern on Tuesday, Nov. 22nd, will feature progress to date on the creation of products that  stem from findings included 2011 State of the Bird report of public lands and waters. These are the raw materials, developed by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, from which we can advance our goals related to agency outreach and regional/habitat coordination.  The purpose of this webinar is to update NABCI partners on how the discussion of SOTB “implementation” has evolved since July and discuss opportunities to engage a broader representation of NABCI partners in the work going forward. An invitation with details specific to this webinar will be forthcoming. Thanks to Alicia King of the USFWS for arranging for NCTC to host this webinar.

Bird Information in the American Wind Wildlife Institute’s (AWWI) Landscape Assessment Tool: The second webinar, to be held from 1-2pm eastern on Dec. 14th, will feature Taber Allison, Director of Science and Research at AWWI and Joe Fargione of The Nature Conservancy who was the principal development of the Landscape Assessment Tool. The purpose of this webinar is to provide a behind the scenes tour of the Landscape Assessment Tool with a particular emphasis on the bird-related information. You may recall that at the July meeting we took a cursory look at the web-based tool and committee members had many questions about the data sources, how the wind industry is using the tool, etc. Thanks to AWWI for hosting this webinar; members of the Partners In Flight science committee will be joining us as well.
