POSITION INFORMATION: Full Time - Permanent
- Performs professional biological work to survey, monitor, protect and manage for endangered and rare species, other native species, and their habitats.
- Coordinates with Red-Cockaded Woodpecker Monitoring (RCW) Program Manager to conduct surveys and biological studies for endangered RCW; conducts monitoring activities to evaluate health and structure of the population and determine population estimates.
- Serves as co-crew leader for designated area for RCW breeding season: annually inspects clusters to update activity status and conditions of cavities; builds Swedish ladders to climb pine trees up to 70 ft to reach nest cavities.
- Conducts activities supporting conservation of longleaf pine ecosystem as well as DoD and installation conservation stewardship responsibilities by applying ecological principles at landscape level; participates with regional NC Sandhills Conservation Partners including Federal and State agencies, local researchers, non-government conservation groups, and private land owners.
