AFWA Blue Ribbon Panel Recommendations Announced

In 2014 the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies convened a Blue Ribbon Panel to re-imagine a 21st Century Model of funding conservation of imperiled species. The Panelists represent outdoor recreation retail and manufacturing sector, the energy industry, conservation organizations and sportsmen's groups.
On March 3rd, the Panel announced their recommendations (full details here). They recommend congress to dedicate up to $1.3 billion annually in existing revenue from the development of energy and mineral resources to the Wildlife Conservation Program. This would equate to over $25 million in appropriations to North Carolina alone - directed at "keeping common species common". The Panel is now working on drafting legislation and gathering support for a bill to implement their recommendations.
